2.0 Working Groups

Working Group

Working Groups

On October 18th we kicked off the Sustainable DC 2.0 working groups. Instead of taking the traditional approach of holding one centralized meeting, we responded to what we heard from residents and brought the meeting to neighborhoods around the city. Participants chose from  five meeting locations throughout the city: Lamond-Riggs Library, NE; Francis Gregory Library, SE; Dorothy I. Heights/Benning Library, NE; DC Office of Planning, SW; and Franklin D. Reeves Center, NW.

For those that weren’t able to join us at one of the five sites, we streamed the presentation and a panel discussion with local sustainability experts via Facebook Live. Viewers were able to engage virtually by submitting questions and comments via Facebook and Twitter.

Working Groups met from November 2017 through February 2018.

Working Group Recommendations

Now that the Working Groups meetings have ended, we have compiled their recommended proposals for SDC 2.0 here. Click the links below to see topic-specific recommendations.

Climate, Energy, and the Built Environment
Equity and People
Health and Food
Jobs, Economy, and Education
Nature and Water
Transportation
Waste

The comment period on these recommendations has ended and technical consultants are looking over all the feedback we received so far. Your next chance to provide feedback will be in June, when we will release the draft framework of the plan to the public for comment. We will have another citywide community meeting at that time as well.

Citywide Community Meetings

On December 12, we hosted a citywide community meeting at THEARC for residents to share their ideas and thoughts. The PowerPoint from that evening’s presentation can be viewed here, and you can find notes from the meeting here.

We hosted another open-house style community meeting on February 13 from 6-8 pm at the DC Office of Planning. At this meeting we presented community members with the working group proposals (below) and collected feedback.
