Sustainable Purchasing Program — COMPLETETechnology-Purchasing-Power

The Office of Contracting and Procurement (OCP) has developed and rolled out a Sustainable Purchasing Program after researching best practices in other jurisdictions, examining the District’s purchasing stream and prioritizing product categories that will have the most immediate impact, drafting a sustainable purchasing policy, developing initial ideas about potential legislation to support sustainable purchasing in the city, and conducting cross-agency discussions as well as lead discussions with existing and potential vendors. The program has completed 7 trainings with 104 procurement staff members with the ultimate goal of training 500-700 people in total at 30-40 trainings. The District has also joined the Sustainable Purchasing Leadership Council (SPLC) that brings together visionary professionals from institutions, suppliers, government, standards bodies, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to simplify, optimize, and standardize the practice of sustainable procurement.
